Community at a Crossroads: Grappling with change and cultivating a community for everyone
White Rock/South Surrey currently finds itself at a crossroads where many people are seeing changes related to mental health, housing, and substance use.
As our community grows, many are asking the question: How do we cultivate a sense of community where everyone’s concerns are heard and addressed?
We will be joined by Dr. Kari Grain, author of Critical Hope, as she discusses the transformative impact that "critical hope" can have on community building and systemic change. Critical hope is an active, ever-evolving relationship between a deep knowledge of the challenges we face, and the hope we need in order to create and sustain a community where everyone can flourish.
Following Dr. Grain's presentation, we will host a dialogue among a panel of local community members with diverse lived experiences. We will share stories, articulate concerns, and explore ideas for building a more nourishing and connected community together.
Dr. Kari Grain, UBC Faculty Member, leads the Master's of Education program in Adult Learning and Global Change (ALGC) & author of "Critical Hope"Date and Time
